Former state senator Roger Sharpe will be our guest speaker. He will discuss the evolution of both political parties and how the GOP transformed from the Party of Lincoln to the Party of Trump.

Mr. Sharpe has an impressive background. He was the youngest senator to serve North Carolina in the 20th Century; he was elected to office in 1976 at the age of 29. While he was senator, he made the bold move of supporting the Equal Rights Amendment. After serving his term, he worked for the US Office of Civil Rights in Washington, DC. In 2006, he ran against Rep. Virginia Foxx. He also related to Justice Susie Sharp, the first woman to serve on the NC Supreme Court.
Mr. Sharpe has a varied educational background. He has a bachelor's in criminal justice from East Carolina, a Master's of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, a Doctor of Education from Harvard, and a Master's of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary.
Mr. Sharpe was the executive producer of a PBS documentary celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address.
